Preventive inspections are the most important part of preventive maintenance. They identify wear and imbalance at an early stage, thereby preventing future malfunctions. It is essential that these inspections are carried out systematically and professionally. That is why Elma Services offers preventive maintenance and periodic inspections, performed by highly qualified service technicians.

Inspection, checks & certification

Visual inspections of machines

Elma service engineers will assess your machine or setup for installation technical qualities. Our experts accurately map the results of a visual inspection. They check all motors, gearboxes, and pumps and describe their status in an inventory list. This is followed, if desired, by a suitable action or maintenance plan.

Thermographic Inspection

With the help of thermography, poor contacts and connections in control cabinets are detected. Hotspots in bearings and cabling of electric motors and generators also become visible. Damage and fire due to overheating are now prevented. You know exactly if and which corrections need to be implemented.

Alignment Check

With an alignment check, you prevent malfunctions and wear to bearings, mechanical seals, couplings, and gears through adequate alignment control. Poorly aligned machines guarantee malfunctions. Elma Services alignment checks keep your machines in top condition.

Electrotechnical Inspections

A number of our Elma service engineers are trained to ensure the optimal electrotechnical operation of your machine (motor, generator). To achieve this, various types of measurements are performed:

  • Recording of current, power, voltage, and power factor of the motor or generator with a special power analyzer. Also: measuring harmonics to identify Power Quality issues prematurely.
  • Megger test: for verifying the insulation resistance of the electrical installation
  • PI measurement (polarization index) specifically for medium-voltage motors and generators (6 – 10 kV)
  • Resistance measurement of the coils and windings of electrical machines

Execution of NEN 3140 certification

This inspection is focused on the safe use of the fixed electrical installation. Key points of attention include fire hazard, contact hazard, and continuity. Common risks include sparking, overheating, explosion hazard, short circuit, burns, or electrocution.

A NEN 3140 inspection consists of:

  • Checking the installation drawings
  • Visual inspection of the fixed installation
  • Various measurements: insulation resistance, thermographic research, protective conductor resistance, load currents, fault current impedance, residual current device trip current, residual current device trip time
  • Reporting

Spare Part Management

You can have your stock of spare parts assessed and monitored for relevance. If desired, you can also have your own stock synchronized with the stocks at Elma. We coordinate the stocks optimally so that your own stock remains minimal without compromising on availability.

Vibrations in machines

and their consequences

The ideal machine produces no vibrations: all energy is utilized for the task for which the machine was designed. The reality, however, is different. Every machine will eventually start to vibrate due to wear. These vibrations, in turn, cause wear to other parts. And this leads to other defects. A chain reaction.

As long as the forces exerted are constant, or remain within certain limits, the measured vibrations will form a constant. A machine in good condition has its own typical vibration pattern. The frequency spectrum shows this typical and characteristic vibration pattern. This is obtained by analyzing the vibration signal in frequencies. When defects begin to develop within a machine, the dynamic processes change. This also shifts the forces exerted on certain parts. It is therefore not surprising that the level and pattern of vibrations also change.

Vibration signals contain a lot of information about the condition of a rotating machine. Elma Services maps this information by performing vibration analyses. The collected measurement results are processed into a professional report. Based on this, the service engineer makes the necessary recommendations.
